My work begins with drawing and is driven by a love of the moments when an image can emerge on the paper without any apparent conscious thought, a Zen-like moment when there seems to be no distinction between the artist and the object of his creation. My aim as a painter is to attempt to achieve in a painting similar qualities to those which are found in drawing, a feeling that the form emerges as a barely conscious dialogue between the marks on the surface and the artist.
